Airbus A350 XWB completes Route Proving Tour

Composite materials in Airbus aircraft have seen a step-by-step introduction that started with the A310 which was first rolled out in February 1982. Benefiting from more than 30 years of composite material experience, 53 percent of the A350 XWB’s airframe is made of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, including Airbus’ first carbon fiber fuselage.

TenCate Cetex® (picture) material can be characterized as high strength and low weight. It will be applied to the stiffening structure of the body of the Airbus A350 XWB. The  thermoplastic material is already used in existing Airbus programs, amongst others the Airbus A380. These advanced fabric reinforced thermoplastic composite materials are already used for many structural and semi-structural exterior as well as interior applications in aircraft.
