Van Halteren Technologies and Naval Group Sign 3 Contract for Delivery of Critical Systems for New Orka-Class Submarines

Van Halteren Technologies and Naval Group have signed three contracts during NEDS, the largest trade fair for the Dutch defense sector, for the delivery of essential systems for the Royal Netherlands Navy’s new Orka-class submarines. This marks a significant contribution to the Submarine Capability Replacement Program.

VHT will supply the central hydraulic power units (HPUs), refrigeration and freezing systems for provisions, anchor winches, and capstans. Both the design and manufacturing will be carried out in-house.

The use of these systems on board submarines requires a design that prioritizes weight, compactness, shock resistance, and reliability. Because space inside a submarine is extremely limited, every component must fit precisely and withstand the harshest conditions.

We have a long-standing track record in Dutch naval shipbuilding, both for surface vessels and submarines. VHT previously contributed to the hydraulic systems for the Walrus-class submarines, and we are once again playing a role in building the next generation of submarines.

Van Halteren is one of the partners within Team Orka, the growing network of Dutch companies collaborating under Naval Group’s leadership on the construction of the Orka-class. This partnership supports Naval Group’s Industrial Cooperation Agreement (ICA) with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and contributes to sustainably strengthening Dutch maritime knowledge and industry.

“The Royal Netherlands Navy is an important customer for us, and we are proud to contribute to this new class of Dutch submarines in cooperation with Naval Group,” says Izaak Veerman, CEO of Van Halteren Technologies. “This allows us not only to preserve our decades of expertise in high-end technology but also to further expand it.”
