Garmin G3000 Prime Selected for Pilatus PC-7 MKX Military Training Aircraft

Announcement marks first selection of the state-of-the-art avionics suite for the military training market

Garmin (NYSE: GRMN) today announced its G3000® PRIME tandem integrated flight deck has been selected by Pilatus for its PC-7 MKX military training aircraft. Providing a smooth transition to modern military training avionics, G3000 PRIME’s highly flexible open system architecture allows for seamless integration to enable the use of third-party cockpit displays for the first time. G3000 PRIME leverages cutting-edge technologies that can enhance safety potential and efficiency while minimizing crew workload in every phase of flight. The Pilatus PC-7 MKX was recently selected by the Royal Netherlands Air Force and French Air and Space Force for basic pilot training.

“Training flights are some of the most critical missions flown in any Air Force and Garmin is honored to have our cutting-edge G3000 PRIME integrated flight deck chosen by Pilatus for the PC-7 MKX helping to develop the next generation of military pilots. We are proud to equip these training aircraft with the tools to maximize training effectiveness, minimize pilot workload, and master information management introducing advanced avionics capabilities at every stage of pilot education.” said Carl Wolf, Garmin Vice President of Aviation Sales, Marketing, Programs and Support

Enabled by a new Garmin display processor system, G3000 PRIME will integrate with three third-party custom user-defined cockpit displays to provide a Primary Flight Display (PFD), Multi-Function Display (MFD) and Engine Indication System (EIS) display. G3000 PRIME seamlessly accepts inputs from each display’s physical controls and touchscreen, allowing for complete adaptation to the unique cockpit configurations found in military training aircraft.

Blending Garmin’s extensive experience in avionics user interface with Pilatus’ proven expertise in pilot training systems, G3000 PRIME provides students the ultimate platform to prepare for future aircraft operations. Custom fonts and iconography ensure clarity and familiarity, while organized and shallow application menus provide quick access to critical functions. Advanced flight management system (FMS) tools allow pilots to preview flight plan changes, including graphical flight plan editing for mission-specific modifications. While viewing maps, pilots can touch anywhere to open a radial menu with options for accessing airport or airspace information. Pilots can also select a split-screen option on the EIS display for an additional multi-function window.

G3000 PRIME in the PC-7 features industry-leading advanced technologies that can enhance safety to provide pilots with confidence as they progress through training. Leveraging Surface Indications and Alert (SURF-IA) technology, the Runway Occupancy Awareness (ROA) feature analyzes GPS and ADS-B traffic information relevant to the airport’s runways and taxiways to assess and alert the flight crew of a possible runway incursion or collision. Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT™) displays a 3D exocentric view of the SafeTaxi® airport environment to aid situational awareness while taxiing. 3D building depictions can include hangars, terminals and towers, taxiways, aprons, signs and other markings contained in the SafeTaxi database.
