SSL Satellite Post-launch Maneuvers for DISH

Space Systems Loral (SSL), a leading provider of commercial satellites, today announced that the EchoStar XVIII satellite, designed and built for DISH Network L.L.C., was launched on Saturday and is successfully performing post-launch maneuvers according to plan. Following launch on an Ariane 5 rocket, the satellite's solar arrays were deployed on schedule and began firing its main thruster to propel it toward its final geostationary orbit. The satellite will augment DISH's existing fleet, assuring the highest level of ongoing service to DISH customers.

"DISH and SSL have teamed together for many years to drive satellite capability to meet next generation broadcast demand," said John Celli, president of SSL. "It has been an excellent collaboration together with our friends at Arianespace, and we are pleased that this highly capable satellite is now launched."

EchoStar XVIII is a high power multi-spot beam satellite that will reinforce DISH service. Based on the SSL 1300 platform, the satellite provides flexibility to augment the DISH fleet. The satellite is designed to provide service for 15 years or more.
