BAE Awarded $98M US Navy Contracts to Maintain USS Kansas City and USS Stockdale

BAE Systems’ San Diego shipyard has received two U.S. Navy contracts totalling $98 million to perform scheduled modernization work aboard the littoral combat ship USS Kansas City (LCS 22) and the guided missile destroyer USS Stockdale (DDG 106).

“Our team looks forward to executing the scheduled maintenance work aboard the Kansas City and Stockdale,” said Eric Icke, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Maritime Solutions San Diego. “Working alongside Navy personnel and our subcontractor teammates, our shipyard team will apply our Navy ship repair expertise to ensure both ships return to the fleet capable to fulfill our nation’s requirements.”

Under the $37 million docking selected restricted availability (DSRA) contract awarded for USS Kansas City, BAE Systems will drydock the 2,550-ton trimaran vessel. The shipyard team will also perform underwater hull preservation work, upgrade onboard ship systems, and refurbish the living spaces for the ship’s 41 crewmembers. The work is expected to begin in May 2026.

For the USS Stockdale, work is scheduled to begin aboard the 9,200-ton ship in May 2026, under the $61 million DSRA contract. In addition to underwater hull preservation work, the company’s Southern California shipyard also will recondition the ship’s superstructure, interior fuel and ballast tanks, and refurbish crew living spaces.

The USS Kansas City is the 12th ship of the Independence class of littoral combat ships. It is the third U.S. Navy ship named for the largest city in the state of Missouri.

The USS Stockdale is the 56th ship of the Arleigh Burke-class and was commissioned in April 2009. The ship is named in honor of the late Medal of Honor recipient Vice Admiral James B. Stockdale (1923-2005).
