Battelle announced today it has received a Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) Homeland Defense & Security Technical Area Task (HD TAT) award supporting the National Guard Bureau (NGB) Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction Division. The award has a total value of $13,781,575 with a 35-month period of performance.
Under the terms of the award, Battelle will provide technical subject matter expertise to study, analyze, advise, research, and develop deliverables to advance the NGB’s homeland defense and security mission requirements in combatting weapons of mass destruction.
The NGB and Department of Defense have established multiple Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) teams to respond to any natural or man-made disaster. These teams are usually the first DoD responders to support civil authorities at any domestic CBRNE incident that may result in catastrophic loss of life or property. Their function includes planning and conducting casualty search and extraction; emergency medical triage, treatment, and patient stabilization; and mass casualty decontamination. They also provide security in support of law enforcement in such situations.

Specifically, Battelle will develop CBRNE and WMD elimination exercises and after-action reports; develop and conduct training courses and assess training effectiveness; and provide technical and analytical assessments to enhance survivability, safety, and sustainment operations during an intentional and unintentional release of CBRNE materials during natural or man-made disasters within the United States and US territories.
