Performance Based Logistics (PBL) for Military Applications set to reach $1.98bn in 2019

The key player has determined that the performance-based logistics (PBL) market will reach $1.98bn in 2019.

Performance-based logistics (PBL), also known as performance-based life-cycle product support or performance-based contracting is a strategy for cost-effective weapon system support. Performance based logistics is a long-term arrangement to optimise the readiness and performance objectives of weapon systems, it is a mechanism to manage and sustain military assets – from individual parts to entire weapon systems – by giving full visibility of the availability and necessary logistic processes for each element of the asset in question. The core objective is to increase performance and the availability of military capability for the Armed Forces.

The analyst commented that "Performance based logistics helps in implementing Automated Identification Technology to improve asset visibility. It reduces government expense by using contracted integrated technical information. It assists diagnostics and prognostics which reduces the predictability of failures. But providing PBL up-front reduces a commander’s flexibility regardless of precedence for weapon system sustainment."
