Smiths Detection Inc. today announced that the U.S. Army Contracting Command – Aberdeen Proving Ground, in support of the Joint Chemical Agent Detector (JCAD) program, exercised an option for a $23 million production order on an existing contract.
Smiths Detection Inc.'s JCAD is an advanced, easy-to-use, lightweight threat detection device that can be held or easily strapped to a belt. The JCAD protects military personnel, police and hazmat responders by alerting operators if toxic substances and dangerous chemicals are detected.
Terry Gibson, President of Smiths Detection Inc., said: “The Department of Defense’s JCAD program has established itself as one of the most effective chemical warfare protection solutions for U.S. troops in history. We are proud to support this program and help protect those that serve our country. SDI remains committed to the success of this technology, which is used by weapon inspectors, civil responders and military forces worldwide.”
The JCAD provided to the U.S. military are manufactured in Smiths Detection Inc.’s facility at Edgewood, Md., which serves as the main U.S. manufacturing site for a range of Smith’s world-leading CBRNE detection systems.
