Shield AI and ST Engineering Sign MoU to Boost Next-Gen Autonomous Defense Capabilities

Shield AI and ST Engineering signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Singapore Airshow to collaborate on advancing ST Engineering’s next-generation autonomous solutions.

Under the agreement, both companies will integrate Shield AI’s Hivemind autonomy software across selected ST Engineering platforms to enhance autonomous performance. ST Engineering will also assess the Hivemind software development kit (SDK) to support the indigenous Singapore-led sovereign design, testing, and deployment of mission autonomy. Through demonstrations and system integrations, the collaboration will evaluate how advanced autonomy can further strengthen.

“The ability to develop and field intelligent systems at speed and scale is becoming central to how nations build and sustain defense capability, especially as they seek to deter threats without relying on large standing forces,” said Brandon Tseng, Shield AI’s co-founder and president. “As Singapore focuses on these priorities, ST Engineering is a natural fit, and we’re excited about what we can accomplish together with Hivemind to deliver autonomy on programs today and enable long-term, sovereign autonomy development.”

Hivemind is Shield AI’s artificial intelligence software that enables platforms to sense, decide, and act autonomously. It can adapt during missions, reroute around no-fly zones, avoid threats, respond to unexpected conditions, and complete missions safely and effectively without human intervention unlike traditional autopilots that rely on preplanned routes. The Hivemind SDK enables the sovereign development, deployment, and evaluation of mission autonomy across platforms, allowing users to own their own autonomy software.

“We see strong potential in embedding Hivemind into our platforms to increase the depth and operational resilience of our solutions. This collaboration creates new opportunities to co-develop future-ready capabilities that can scale across our defence, public security, and potentially commercial applications. It brings together the best technologies, breadth and depth of experience from ST Engineering in operationalising autonomous systems,” said Lee Shiang Long, group chief tech & digital officer at ST Engineering.

The MoU was signed during the Singapore Airshow by ST Engineering’s chief operations officer (tech & innovation) and president, defence & public security, Mervyn Tan and Shield AI’s Brandon Tseng.
