During NEDS, the largest defence industry exhibition in the Netherlands, Nevesbu signed a contract with Naval Group to design complex subsystems for the new Orka-class submarines for the Royal Netherlands Navy. This assignment marks a significant contribution by Nevesbu to the Replacement Netherlands Submarine Capability (RNSC) programme.
One of the key requirements for a submarine is to remain undetectable, which means it must operate as silently as possible. This places extremely high demands on the systems and their integration. Moreover, the available space inside a submarine is extremely limited: every centimetre must be utilised with precision and efficiency.
Over the past 90 years, Nevesbu has contributed to the design of all Dutch submarines and various submarines for foreign navies. The company designs technically demanding components that require in-depth knowledge of both operations at sea and naval engineering. This is highly specialised work. Nevesbu’s continuity of knowledge and experience enables the company to design high-quality systems for the new submarines, meeting the highest standards in terms of safety, performance, and reliability.

Nevesbu is one of the partners within Team Orka, a growing network of Dutch companies from various sectors working under the leadership of Naval Group on the construction of the new submarines. This collaboration aligns with the Industrial Cooperation Agreement (ICA) signed by Naval Group and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The ICA strengthens the foundation for long-term strategic autonomy in the maintenance and future modernisation of submarines. It also promotes cooperation and knowledge exchange between the Dutch and French maritime industries.
“Nevesbu’s contribution to the RNSC programme underscores our strength as a knowledge partner in submarine design”, says Bart van Rijssen, Managing Director of Nevesbu. “We look forward to working with Naval Group and the other partners involved to deliver a new class of advanced submarines for the Netherlands.”
“Nevesbu’s deep-rooted knowledge and experience, built up over nearly a century and evident in all Dutch submarine designs, is of great value to the Orka programme”, adds Mark Donderwinkel, Country Director Netherlands at Naval Group. “We are honoured to welcome them to Team Orka and thereby strengthen industrial cooperation between Naval Group and the Netherlands.”
