Current Scientific Corporation's Advanced Surveillance System Selected for Testing Under Innovation Solutions Canada Program

Current Scientific Corporation, a Canadian manufacturer of electro-optical infrared systems, announces its innovative surveillance solution has been selected through a competitive process for testing under the Government of Canada's Innovation Solutions Canada program.

The selection came as part of the ISC's challenge seeking "advanced sensors and materials for terrestrial and space applications,” with a focus on novel surveillance technologies that can address challenges posed by year-round, persistent surveillance of the Canadian Arctic, territorial waters, and air space.

"We are honoured that our NN 8087-360 surveillance system was selected for evaluation under the Innovation Solutions Canada program," said Greg Menzies, president of Current Scientific Corporation. "This opportunity allows us to support Canadian law enforcement and maritime safety agencies with made-in-Canada technology designed specifically for the challenging environments they operate in.”

CURRENT’s system will be tested at a remote location on the west coast of British Columbia by a Canadian law enforcement agency. The testing is part of the ISC Testing Stream, which evaluates innovative pre-commercial products and services before potential broader deployment.

The NN 8087-360 system features a long-range HD mid-wave infrared camera, long-range HD day camera and laser range finder in a gyro-stabilized pan-tilt-zoom unit. This is integrated with an array of high-definition thermal cameras that produce a continuous 360-degree panoramic image updating in real time.

With AI-based object detection capabilities specifically designed for identifying vessel traffic, the system provides operators with round-the-clock situational awareness in all weather conditions. The NN 8087-360’s innovative design ensures greater reliability, reduced maintenance requirements, and improved operational availability compared to traditional surveillance systems.

"We're proud to contribute to Canada's security infrastructure with technology built for the unique challenges of monitoring our vast coastlines and waterways," Menzies added. "Our team is excited to work closely with Canadian security agencies to ensure our solutions meet their operational needs while supporting national security objectives."

CURRENT’s camera systems are installed worldwide on vessels in various fields, including coast guard, super-yachts, paramilitary and navy, ferries and explorer cruises, icebreakers, marine mammal research, and other specialty vessels. The company also has land-based systems deployed internationally for coastal surveillance.

Innovation Solutions Canada is part of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. It helps Canadian innovators by funding research and development and testing prototypes in real-life settings.

Current Scientific Corporation continually invests in R&D to create and refine systems for a growing list of applications. These include safety and security, and environmental and conservation measures. The company's Quality Management System is certified to the ISO 9001:2015 standard.
