Exail, a global leader in inertial navigation technologies, has been selected, alongside with its Spanish partner Grafinta, to supply the UmiX-40 Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for its integration in the navigation system of Airbus’s SIRTAP tactical unmanned aerial system (UAS), developed by GMV. This collaboration will provide Airbus with a key component to enhance the SIRTAP UAS's precision and reliability in demanding operational environments.
The UmiX-40 combines high-precision navigation and stabilization capabilities in an ultra-compact, solid-state design, enabling seamless integration into space-constrained platforms like the SIRTAP UAS. Incorporating Fiber-Optic Gyroscopes (FOG) and Vibrating Beam Accelerometers developed in-house, it delivers reliable performance in GNSS-denied environments and under extreme operating conditions, ensuring mission continuity and flight safety even in contested or degraded navigation scenarios. Its robust architecture and plug-and-play integration make it well-suited for the operational demands of long-endurance ISR missions across varied and challenging terrains.
“We are grateful for the trust Airbus and GMV have placed in us for this important project,” said Alexandre Maia, Regional Sales Manager at Exail, “The UmiX-40’s precision, ruggedness, and compact design make it an excellent fit for SIRTAP UAS’s demanding operational needs. Its high-performance capabilities will provide a reliable and precise navigation solution to meet the operational requirements of the Spanish Army and Air and Space Forces.”
