Honeywell APU, Generator Selected By Columbia Helicopters For Use In Chinooks

Upgraded Honeywell technology will support Columbia's heavy-lift helicopter services

Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) today announced that Columbia Helicopters has selected Honeywell’s proven 36-150[CH] auxiliary power unit (APU) and 35KVA generator system to upgrade its Chinook Model 234 and CH-47D helicopters. The Honeywell APU provides a reliable source of ground power to start the main engines and operate aircraft hydraulic and electric powered equipment. Honeywell’s APU and generator will provide the helicopters significantly more power than the current installed system and also support Honeywell’s alignment of its portfolio with several compelling megatrends, including the future of aviation.

“Columbia Helicopters are relied upon to deliver essential services and fulfill critical missions. As a result, the company needs a partner who is able to support its growing heavy-lift capabilities around the world,” said Matt Milas, President, Defense and Space, Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. “With the integration of Honeywell’s proven and highly reliable 36-150 auxiliary power unit and 35KVA generator system, Columbia will benefit from enhanced operational efficiency to support its Chinook helicopters in various demanding environments.”

Columbia Helicopters provides heavy-lift helicopter services around the world and provides maintenance support to ensure mission readiness for critical operations.

"As a Honeywell partner servicing the T55 engine line, Columbia Helicopters is excited to collaborate with Honeywell to introduce the 36-150 auxiliary power unit (APU) to the commercial Chinook fleet," said David Balevic, President and CEO of Columbia Helicopters. "Mission readiness and operational efficiency are top priorities for us and our customers. This new APU enhances our mission of supporting the long-term operations of these aircraft.”

Honeywell’s 36-150[CH] Chinook APU is a derivative of the company’s highly successful 36-150 APU model series and is directly related to the proven 36-150[BH] Black Hawk APU, which is currently in active service globally on U.S. military UH/SH-60 model helicopters. The 36-150[BH] has demonstrated superior on-wing reliability compared to alternatives and is currently in production for the U.S. Air Force CRH and JMSDF SH-60L helicopter programs. Since 1983 Honeywell has delivered over 10,000 36-150 APUs.
