KNDS Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG has been commissioned by Public Services and Procurement Canada on behalf of the Department of National Defence to support the LEOPARD 2 main battle tanks including the Armoured Recovery Vehicle and Armoured Engineering Vehicle variants.
This is a comprehensive contract for the long-term sustainment support of all tanks that Canada has awarded to the industry.
The contract was signed in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, and includes program management, maintenance, technical services, supply support, engineering support, and other forms of support as required, including the establishment of a maintenance and repair centre.

The contract, which begins in September 2024, runs until March 2031 and includes an option for a further five years.
“As a system house and manufacturer of the LEOPARD 2, we have felt a strong connection with Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces for almost 20 years. For KNDS, the contract for the long-term support of the systems is an honor and we are aware of our responsibility to ensure the operational capability of 74 LEOPARD 2 battle tanks and 29 family vehicles,” says Markus Schmidt, Senior Vice President Customer Support.
The order volume of the core and additional services amounts to over €600 million.
