Northrop Grumman Corporation (NOC) opened a new building today to support its advanced missile defense solutions and strategic deterrent business.

The new facility features advanced engineering, research labs, software development factories and a high-speed, multi-secured communications network allowing staff to better collaborate and deliver for key customers. The space gives Northrop Grumman added flexibility for future expansion and growth opportunities.

Company officials were joined by State Senator Bob Gardner, State Rep. Donald Valdez, Governor Polis’ Senior Advisor Jay Lindell, and El Paso County Commissioners Longinos Gonzalez and Holly Williams. Also in attendance were representatives from U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, the Colorado Legislature’s Aerospace and Defense Caucus, military, education, civic and other community organizations.

“We are pleased to have Northrop Grumman’s missile defense solutions and strategic deterrent teams move into this new building,” said Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers. “It demonstrates Northrop Grumman’s continued commitment to the local community here in Colorado Springs."

The Northrop Grumman Missile Defense Solutions team is responsible for several large Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs including prime on MDA’s Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC), strategic partner role on MDA’s Ground-Based Missile Defense (GMD) and Command, Control, Battle Management Communication (C2BMC) programs, teammate on MDA’s Modeling & Simulation Contract – Framework (MaSC-F), support to Northrop Grumman’s prototype for the agency’s Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), and prime on a Prototype Infrared Payload (PIRPL) experiment with the Space Development Agency (SDA).

The Northrop Grumman Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) team is responsible for the U.S. Air Forces Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program, which will modernize the land-based leg of the nation’s strategic nuclear triad. Northrop Grumman was awarded the prime contract for GBSD in September 2020 and is leading a nationwide team to develop the system and deliver an initial operational capability by 2029. The company’s GBSD headquarters is in Roy, Utah. The SDS team is also responsible for the campaign for the recapitalization of the U.S. government’s Nuclear Command, Control, and Communication (NC3) planning efforts, the Ground Subsystem Support Contract (GSSC), and Advanced Programs, engineering the next generation technology applications for the nuclear enterprise.
