Burtek Enterprises Awarded Major Hardware Contract by LM

Burtek Enterprises Inc. announced today that it was awarded a major hardware contract associated with the MK41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) for the U.S. Navy by Lockheed Martin. The contract calls for 128 systems with options that, if exercised, would increase to a total of 176 VLS systems.

The VLS fires a wide range of missiles, primarily off of U.S. Navy cruisers and destroyers. Since the first launcher rolled off of the Lockheed Martin production line in 1984, the systems have been combat proven with more than 3,800 successful firings worldwide. The U.S. and 12 allied navies on nearly 200 ships representing 21 ship classes have deployed them.

MK41 VLS is the only launching system that can simultaneously accommodate the weapon control system and the missiles of every war fighting mission area -- anti-aircraft, anti-surface, antisubmarine and land attack.

"This aligns with our goals of expanding our footprint, ultimately providing our customers with the best value in technology, capacity and logistics."

Work will be performed in Chesterfield, MI.
