Regional Air Mobility: Transforming How We Travel

People across North America, Europe and Asia have limited travel options. If a person’s desired destination and place of origin are not near to any main air transportation centre, they will have to travel miles to get to an airport that offers a judiciously priced commercial package. They will have to wait in long queues, fly non-direct routes, and suffer a prolonged ground transportation ride from the airport to arrive at their final destination.

Regional Air Mobility (RAM) concentrates on building upon the existing foundation of an airport in order to transport people using advanced aircraft that offers massive improvement in productivity and affordability, and friendly incorporation over the present local transportation choices. These aircraft, that generally transport less than 20 passengers are flexible in terms of areas from where they can take off and land, even utilising the current runways and other associated infrastructure to capitalize on similarity with today’s airports. Therefore, Regional Air Mobilty offers air accessibility that is reliable, effective, and affordable. RAM aircraft can carry fewer passengers compared to large aircraft and therefore the comparative per-passenger costs of a pilot, but remote and/or autonomous procedures at the airport and in-air can decrease these costs. Assuming autonomous or semi-autonomous operations are primarily allowed for cargo or repositioning flights only, even then, they will still contribute to lowering overall costs. Other RAM enablers like a seamless ecosystem, new technologies, and especially the advancements in electric propulsion will drive-down costs.

Amsterdam based Market Forecast’s latest report “Regional Air Mobility - Market and Technology Forecast to 2030” examines, analyzes, and predicts the evolution of RAM technologies, markets, and outlays (expenditures) over the next 8 years –  up to 2030 in the aerospace industry.  It also examines electric aircraft & RAM markets geographically, focusing on the top 95% of global markets, in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Throughout the report we show how RAM are used today to add real value. To provide the most thorough and realistic forecast, this report provides a twin-scenario analysis, including “steady state”, emergence of new electric & hybrid aircraft technology.
