Mandarin Airlines Selects P&W for FMP Engine Maintenance Contract for its ATR72-600 Fleet

Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), is pleased to announce that it has signed a Fleet Management™ Program (FMP®) agreement with Mandarin Airlines for the ongoing maintenance of 18 PW127M engines that power the airline’s fleet of ATR72-600 aircraft.

“Mandarin Airlines is a key regional carrier in Taiwan and is a subsidiary of global carrier China Airlines,” says Irene Makris, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Pratt & Whitney. “Regional airlines such as Mandarin play a vital role in helping customers travel to major urban centres from which global carriers operate. So the dispatch reliability of regional aircraft plays a critical role in keeping the entire ecosystem operating efficiently and economically. Having the fleet’s engines maintained by the OEM helps ensure optimal aircraft availability.”

FMPs are flexible, high-value maintenance planning solutions that lower operating costs and simplify fleet operations management. Tailored to suit the unique requirements of fleet operators and airlines, P&W’s FMPs allow customers to focus on their core business and eliminate the overhead and logistical challenges of operating a maintenance facility.

The PW100/PW150 engine family powers 90 per cent of 30- to 90-passenger regional turboprop aircraft operating today. These turboprop engines consume 25 to 40 per cent less fuel and produce 50 per cent fewer CO2 emissions than similar-sized regional jets. The engines offer airlines the best life cycle costs and help sustain an aircraft’s value.

“With a fleet of more than 64,000 engines flying today, we have built the largest, most comprehensive customer support network designed specifically for every market we serve,” says Makris. “We are focused on seamless customer service, and are driving solutions for every customer to maximize engine and aircraft availability, reduce costs and increase asset value.”

Pratt & Whitney has been a leader in the design, production and servicing of regional aviation engines since the inception of the industry 35 years ago. Its regional engines have accumulated almost 200 million flying hours.
