Vaeridion and Evolito Announce Strategic Collaboration to Develop Electric Propulsion System for Microliner Aircraft

VÆRIDION, an all-electric aircraft manufacturer, and Evolito, the pioneer of world-leading axial-flux electric motors, motor controllers, integrated EPU and power generation solutions for aerospace, have agreed to collaborate on the development of an electric engine propulsion solution for VÆRIDION’s Microliner aircraft. The agreement was announced at the Paris Air Show.

Key highlights:

  • VÆRIDION and Evolito have a shared commitment to further advance the integration of Evolito’s high-performance electric motors and controllers into VÆRIDION’s propulsion system architecture.
  • Both companies will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the multidisciplinary aspects relevant to the integration of Evolito’s technology with VÆRIDION’s innovative multi-engine, single propeller powerplant system.
  • The partnership represents a logical progression following the successful completion of a Pre-Application Contract (PAC) between VÆRIDION and EASA in 2024, which aimed at mitigating certification challenges associated with this innovative propulsion architecture.
  • The combination of Evolito’s leading torque density engine performance with the enhanced safety provided by the multi-engine single propeller architecture is poised to achieve unprecedented levels of propulsion performance and operational safety.

VÆRIDION is pioneering a unique approach to regional aviation by introducing a ground-breaking 100% electric aircraft built on proven technology. Its innovative propulsion system—a single propeller powered by multiple electric engines and a direct-drive transmission—was assessed by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as part of a Pre-Application Contract concluded in 2024. With this innovative architecture, VÆRIDION is paving the way for certification-ready prototype flights by 2027, aiming for its first commercial flight in 2030.

“This collaboration was unveiled in tandem with the programme launch and marks a significant step forward on the path to the first flight.,” said Markus Kochs-Kämper, CTO of VÆRIDION. “Among the global supply-chain for electric propulsion systems we’ve surveyed, Evolito offers a winning combination of market-ready technology and manufacturing capability. Their profound technological expertise, combined with manufacturing know-how and aerospace credentials, present a significant opportunity to jointly explore and integrate a high torque density, lightweight propulsion solution for our Microliner. This makes them a compelling supplier who can deliver at scale and to the aerospace standards we require for our zero-emissions regional aircraft.“

Evolito has been at the forefront of the electric propulsion industry, setting new standards as the first company to receive Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the UK Civil Aviation Authority for electric propulsion systems. Designed with certification and manufacturability, along with performance and efficiency in mind, Evolito’s technology stands apart from it’s competitors—making it uniquely suited to power the future of electric aviation.

Dr. Chris Harris, CEO and Co-founder of Evolito: “As aviation moves toward climate-conscious solutions, collaborations like this signal the critical role of cross-industry partnerships in advancing scalable, certified electric flight. By joining forces early, our companies are accelerating the development of electric propulsion technologies that meet the performance, efficiency, and regulatory demands of this next-generation regional aircraft.”
