Universal Avionics System Upgrades Extend Business Jet Lifespans

Universal Avionics’ (UA) new upgrades to its retrofit InSight™ Flight Display System and ClearVision™ Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) aim to increase flight safety across business aviation, with a goal of improving situational awareness and adding approximately up to 20 years to an aircraft’s lifespan.

Dror Yahav, CEO at Universal Avionics, says: “Our integrated systems and connected cockpit work to modernize aging aircraft and overcome challenges from outdated avionics. Our retrofit InSight Display System and ClearVision EFVS allow aircraft to continue to fly safely and in accordance with regulations, while maintaining the latest capabilities and maximum operational credits, much like a brand-new aircraft.

“These sustainable upgrades extend the life of aircraft, as avionics systems are often the first components to drive the need to upgrade. By providing futureproof retrofit options, Universal continues to pave the way for enhanced innovation across the industry, aiming to save operators money, time and the inconvenience of aging avionics.”

Certified for use in more than eight business jet models, Universal’s InSight Display System replaces obsolete Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) displays and, in many cases, the Advanced File Graphic Servers, with modern glass cockpit technology, providing pilots with real-time navigation, terrain, and weather data on customizable high-resolution screens. This enhances flight management, visibility, and situational awareness, making it the preferred choice for aircraft owners.

ClearVision Enhanced Flight Vision System, after completing certification on the B737NG last fall, is now being offered to BBJ customer under the brand “AerAware.” ClearVision is also available on the KingAir B200/300, certified earlier this month with Global Aviation Tech LLC. Its EVS-5000/4000 multispectral camera enhances visibility in poor weather conditions or at night, using infrared and visible light sensors to give pilots clearer views during critical flight phases, such as take-off and landing.

ClearVision also resolves challenges associated with the FAA’s new Light-Emitting Diode (LED) approach lighting system, helping pilots to identify LEDs and land safely in low-visibility conditions.
