Brazilian AF to Upgrade Inspection Aircraft With Rockwell Collins' Pro Line 21 Avionics

Hawker 800XP aircraft to be modernized for compliance with new airspace mandates, including ADS-B Out Marks first Pro Line 21 retrofit upgrade for Hawker 800XP in Latin American region

The Brazilian Air Force Flight Inspection Group (GEIV) will be upgrading its fleet of Hawker 800XP aircraft with Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line 21™ avionics suite that will bring them into compliance with upcoming airspace mandate requirements. This marks the first Pro Line 21 retrofit to be installed on a Hawker 800XP in Latin America.

“Pro Line 21 provides enhanced situational awareness and delivers a whole new flight experience for pilots,” said Marcelo Vaz, managing director for Rockwell Collins in Brazil. “The upgrade will also bring the Brazilian Air Force improved reliability over legacy avionics with lower maintenance costs over the long-term.”

The Pro Line 21 retrofit replaces legacy Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) displays with four large, configurable 10 x 8-inch liquid crystal displays (LCDs) that are capable of displaying high-resolution electronic charts, graphical weather, enhanced navigation maps, enhanced vision and other mission-specific options.

The four Hawker 800XP aircraft being upgraded are used by the GEIV to inspect and calibrate the air navigation aid, approach and landing equipment, as well as the high precision air navigation procedures. This helps provide safe operation to all aircraft flying within Brazilian air space during all flight phases, especially during adverse meteorological conditions. Existing components on the aircraft used for its mission, such as the flight inspection deck and sensors, will be fully integrated to operate within the new Pro Line 21 system.
