BigLever Provides Advanced Product Line Engineering Capabilities for US Army's Consolidated Product-line Management Next Program

Collaborates with General Dynamics-led team to Enable Rapid Deployment of New Variations and Enhancements to Army's Live Training Transformation Product Line

BigLever Software , the leading provider of product line engineering (PLE) systems and software solutions, announced today that the company is providing next-generation PLE capabilities for the continuation of the U.S. Army's Consolidated Product-line Management (CPM) Program. Under the CPM Next contract awarded earlier this year, the General Dynamics-led team will continue to lead the development and management of the Army's Live Training Transformation (LT2) product line for combat training. The LT2 product line employs the industry's most advanced PLE methods and tools provided by BigLever for the rapid deployment of new variations, refinements, and enhancements to address changing missions and threats with much greater efficiency than traditional product development approaches.

In 2009, BigLever teamed with General Dynamics C4 Systems to win the initial CPM contract from the Army's Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO STRI). The LT2 CPM Next contract will help the Army continue to reduce the costs and complexity associated with maintaining its diverse portfolio of training systems. Using the latest PLE approaches, the General Dynamics-led team can rapidly integrate new training capabilities, directly supporting a soldier's ability to be ready for operations in today's complex mission environment. The CPM Next award is a five-year contract with a total potential value of $415 million.

"The General Dynamics team continues to demonstrate outstanding industry leadership by leveraging and driving the latest advances in product line engineering," said Dr. Charles Krueger, BigLever Software CEO. "Together, we bring new levels of innovation and efficiency to one of the most important investments that the Army makes -- training soldiers. The CPM Next contract award is a testament to the success of this collaboration."

The LT2 PLE approach has delivered more than $570 million in cost avoidance to the U.S. Army to date, with more than 175 training ranges worldwide that scale from individual soldiers to full brigades participating in live force-on-force and force-on-target training. The Army's LT2 product line was inducted into the Software Product Line Hall of Fame at the 18 th International Software Product Line Conference (SPLC), earning the highest achievement in the PLE field.

As the prime contractor, the General Dynamics team works closely with BigLever to facilitate the continued evolution of the LT2 product line, employing the latest PLE innovations. This PLE approach uses BigLever's next generation PLE methods and industry-standard Gears solution to create a single, automated production system -- much like a manufacturing factory -- that uses product feature profiles to automatically assemble and configure the systems and software assets needed to produce the entire product line.
