Airfield Design Contract at Reagan National Airport

CH2M's aviation experts were recently selected by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) to manage the Airfield Pavement Rehabilitation and Geometric Improvements design contract at Reagan National Airport (DCA).

As part of their contract, CH2M will provide airfield modifications and improvements needed to address nonstandard airfield geometry, specifically geometric standards of airfield pavements.

CH2M awarded Airfield Design Contract at Reagan National Airport by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

The scope of work includes:

  • implementing modifications and improvements to airfield pavements and infrastructure to increase safety, minimize pilot confusion, mitigate published hot spots and address nonstandard geometry;
  • conducting a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) inspection of the existing pavements; updating the Pavement Management System for the entire airfield; designing new pavement; rehabilitating existing pavement; or removing and replacing distressed runway, taxiway and shoulder pavements;
  • providing support for associated airfield elements related to planned improvements, such as pavement markings, grading and drainage improvements, lighting and signage, stormwater pollution prevention, stormwater management, construction phasing, maintenance of traffic, utilities, navigational aids (NAVAIDS) and airfield electrical work.

"We look forward to collaborating with the MWAA to provide airfield modifications that will assist in serving the airport's 20+ million annual passengers," stated CH2M's Project Manager Joe Grubbs. "Our work on more than a dozen similar projects will serve us well in helping the MWAA achieve its airfield improvement goals at Reagan National Airport."
