DRS To Provide Modernized IVCS For AEGIS Cruisers And Destroyers

Published on ASDNews: Nov 17, 2009
(Parsippany, N.J., November 16, 2009) -- DRS Technologies, Inc. announced it received a $14 million Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) award from the U.S. Navy to provide a modernized integrated voice communications system (IVCS) for Aegis cruisers and destroyers.

This contract award includes options which, if exercised, could continue the work until 2014 and bring the cumulative value of the contract to a total value of $59 million.

Work will be performed at DRS facilities in Kanata, Canada, Gaithersburg, MD., Chesapeake, VA., Johnstown, PA. and is expected to be completed by late 2010.

This contract award was the result of a competitive process, in which DRS Technologies was selected as the "Best Value" for the U.S. Navy.

This award further strengthens DRS' position as a leading supplier to the U.S. Navy. DRS is a leading supplier of tactical and administrative intercommunications systems and is a key supplier for the Cruiser and Destroyer AEGIS Modernization (AMOD) Secure Voice System (SVS) ON-568, which is a mission-critical, tactical communications system supporting command and control operations on the ship.

"We are extremely pleased with the competitive award of this contract. DRS is bringing forward a modern, proven and highly reliable communications system that leverages our existing Secure Voice System (SVS) product, and incorporates COTS PBX technology provided by our teammate, Avaya Federal Solutions Inc.", said Alan Dietrich, president, DRS C3 & Aviation Group, Gaithersburg, MD.
