DRS To Provide MRT Computers For US Marine Corps

Published on ASDNews: Nov 11, 2009
(Parsippany, N.J., November 10, 2009) -- DRS Technologies, Inc. announced that it received a $4.7 million contract from Stauder Technologies in St. Peters, Missouri to provide military rugged tablet (MRT) computers and peripheral equipment for the U.S. Marine Corps' Target Location Designation Handoff System (TLDHS) program.

For this contract, DRS' Tactical Systems Group in Melbourne, Florida will produce hundreds of the handheld MRT computers and peripheral equipment. The company will begin delivering the MRTs and peripheral equipment this December with completion expected by June 2010.

The MRT is a lightweight, ultra-rugged mobile computing device that serves as the man-machine interface for the TLDHS program. It features a removable and rotating hard drive, milled aluminum housing, a 10.4-inch sunlight readable display in either pen or touch screen format. It also offers a Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module Global Positioning System (SAASM).

"We are proud to have been selected by Stauder Technologies and the U.S. Marine Corps for this important battlefield computing program. Our employees take great pride in delivering a truly joint product that warfighters can depend on for mission critical computing wherever they go," said Mike Sarrica, vice president and general manager of DRS Tactical Systems. "This year, we will deliver more than 5,000 MRT systems and plan to deliver more than 20,000 MRT Joint Platform Tablets (JPT) in 2010. The combat-proven MRT has already been selected for use by the U.S. Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Special Operations Command (SOCOM)."
