L-3 Awarded $47 M by US Navy

Published on ASDNews: Jun 9, 2009
(New York, June 8, 2009) -- L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Command & Control Systems and Software (C2S2) division has been awarded a follow-on contract by the U.S. Navy to support its Aircraft Structural Life Surveillance (ASLS) program. This five-year contract consists of a base year plus four option years, with a total contract value of $47.8 million.

L-3 will provide engineering and information services under this contract to safely and efficiently manage the structural life of the Navy's fixed and rotary wing aircraft.

"The monitoring of aircraft service life limits is increasingly significant as requirements for long-term operational usage often exceed planned service life," said John Medea, president of L-3 C2S2. "This program supports the Navy's objective to further implement an aggressive service life management plan to optimize its aircraft inventory."

Mr. Medea noted that L-3's application of proven engineering processes has contributed to the success of the Navy's Structural Appraisal of Fatigue Effects (SAFE) program, resulting in this follow-on award. "After a 10-year incumbency, we look forward to L-3's continued participation in developing comprehensive, cost-effective, and responsive solutions for the SAFE program and its supporting acquisition programs," he continued.
