Company to Continue Support to Military Health System Community(San Diego and McLean, Va., May 6, 2009) -- Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) today announced it has been awarded a task order by the Defense Health Information Management System to provide sustainment support to the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA)/Composite Health Care System (CHCS). The task order has a six month base period of performance, two one-year options and a total value of more than $158 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed in Falls Church, Va., San Diego, Calif., and at more than 135 Military Treatment Facilities worldwide. The task order was awarded under the Department of Defense Systems Integration, Design, Development, Operations and Maintenance Services III (D/SIDDOMS III) indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract.
AHLTA, the military's electronic health record, gives healthcare providers access to data about beneficiaries' conditions, prescriptions, diagnostic tests and additional information essential to providing quality care. CHCS was designed and developed for the Department of Defense (DoD) by SAIC. CHCS is a fully integrated hospital information system that helps capture, manage and share health data across the DoD enterprise by connecting medical departments, hospital wards, outlying clinics, laboratories, and pharmacies. These systems enable the Military Health System to track clinical care and exposures of deployed units, monitor demand-management effectiveness, better understand disease prevalence and prevention, and study both clinical and management outcomes. Under the task order, SAIC will continue to provide engineering, logistics and sustainment support for AHLTA/CHCS, ensuring the quality care of 9.4 million beneficiaries of the Military Health System TRICARE Program.
"SAIC has supported this program for nearly 20 years, helping ensure that military healthcare providers have access to current, legible information to support the delivery of high-quality healthcare," said Charles Koontz, SAIC group president. "Our team of more than 500 dedicated employees is honored to help sustain clinical systems that support the highest quality of care-giving to our military men and women and their family members."
