Honeywell TPE331-10A Engine Powers Epic Escape Flight
(April 21, 2009) -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that its TPE331-10A engine powered the first flight of the new Epic Escape turboprop aircraft.
The Epic Escape's first flight was earlier this month and since then, the aircraft has accumulated more than 40 hours in almost 20 flights. The Epic Escape is one of the fastest pressurized single-engine turboprop aircraft in the world and is scheduled to begin customer deliveries in July.
"Honeywell's TPE331 turboprop engine's performance, power and best-in-class fuel consumption give real meaning to Epic's philosophy of fill the tank, fill the seats, go the distance and leave nothing behind," said Ben Driggs, Vice President, Propulsion Marketing, Honeywell Aerospace. "Epic operators will also appreciate the longer intervals between required maintenance events and lower operating costs."
The Honeywell TPE331-10A engine delivers 940 SHP (1,000 TSHP) horsepower, giving the Epic Escape a 1510-nautical mile range and a 350-knot maximum cruise speed. Its single spool design provides pilots with an immediate power response, improving operability. The TPE331-10A also features temperature and torque limiting as well as a single red-line controller with auto start capabilities.
Since 1962, Honeywell has delivered more than 13,000 TPE331 engines, and more than 11,000 remain in service. TPE331s have flown more than 114 million hours.
"The TPE331 powers nearly 80 aircraft platforms, and it's known for being both reliable and responsive," said Driggs. "Honeywell also offers excellent product support for the TPE backed by our worldwide support network, and we continue to offer upgrades and improvements that increase mature aircraft performance and add market value."
