SAIC Awarded $104 M by DHS, FEMA
(San Diego and McLean, Va., April 16, 2009) -- Company to Continue Development and Teaching of Emergency Response Training Curriculum at Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Ala.
Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) today announced it has been awarded a prime contract by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide training support to the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP). The single-award contract has a one year base period of performance, four one-year options and a total contract value of more than $104 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed at the CDP in Anniston, Ala.
CDP offers federal all-hazards training that enhances the capabilities of emergency responders, emergency management personnel, and government officials responding to incidents involving weapons of mass destruction and other hazardous materials. It is the only federally chartered weapons of mass destruction training center, catering to emergency responders from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. Under the contract, SAIC will design and develop emergency responder curriculum, and provide qualified instructors to teach each course. SAIC will also manage training logistics, administrative support, sustainment activities and cost data analysis.
"In the past 10 years, through the CDP, SAIC has trained more than 500,000 emergency responders from state, local, federal and tribal governments, foreign governments, and private entities," said John Ferriter, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager. "We are honored to continue our support of the CDP, helping emergency responders gain the critical skills and confidence necessary to manage domestic incidents, regardless of cause."
