DRS Receives $13.2M Contract to Provide M2A2 Aiming Circles for the U.S. Army(PARSIPPANY, N.J., Sept. 12, 2006) -- DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it has been competitively awarded a new five-year $13.2 million Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to provide Aiming Circles for the U.S. Marine Corps. The M2A2 Aiming Circles are low-power telescopes, supported by a base plate for mounting on a tripod. They are used for the precise measurement of the azimuth and elevation angles of ground or aerial targets with respect to a pre-selected baseline for the orientation of indirect fire weapons. They also can be used for topographical surveying.
DRS received initial funding of $1.2 million on this award from the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive & Armament Command (TACOM), Rock Island, Illinois. For this contract, DRS will fabricate and deliver complete M2A2 Aiming Circles and M2A2 Aiming Circle Head Assemblies. Work for this award will be accomplished by the company's DRS Technical Services unit, Military Parts Reinvention Network, based in Alexandria, Virginia, and will continue through July 2011.

"The receipt of this contract reflects our ability to build on our unique foundation of expertise in defense systems and engineering practices to deliver consistently reliable, innovative solutions to our customers," said Daniel A. Rodrigues, president of DRS's Sustainment Systems & Services Group.
The M2A2 Aiming Circles measure azimuth and elevation angles of targets and include provisions for course and fine leveling, as well as a magnetic compass to aid in determining heading/direction. These capabilities help U.S. Army field artillery and mortar battalions to more accurately determine the range and required elevation for firing mortar rounds. Angular measurements in azimuth are indicated on graduated scales and associated micrometers.
