(WAKEFIELD, Mass., June 19, 2006) -- Implant Sciences Corporation (AMEX: IMX) a developer and manufacturer of products for national security, medicine and industry, today announced a new order for one of our Quantum Sniffer handheld explosives detectors to be used by a law enforcement agency in New Jersey. As outlined in the Homeland Security Presidential Directive/HSPD-8, the term "first responder" refers to those individuals who in the early stages of an incident are responsible for the protection and preservation of life, property, evidence, and the environment, including emergency response providers as defined in section 2 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (6 U.S.C. 101), as well as emergency management, public health, clinical care, public works, and other skilled support personnel (such as equipment operators) that provide immediate support services during prevention, response, and recovery operations.
Joanne Arsenault, Implant Sciences' VP of Sales & Marketing-Security Division, stated, "We continue to make progress in introducing our Quantum Sniffer into different verticals within the security marketplace. Over the past several weeks we have taken domestic orders from different public agencies and private companies that we believe will use our explosives detector for shipboard, cargo and overnight delivery security applications. This current order represents our first demonstrated success with "first responders." We have been working with state and local law enforcement agencies in evaluating the importance of the Quantum Sniffer explosives detector as an adjunct to equipment currently used for various security applications. We believe our current efforts could lead to additional orders from "first responders."
