C-27J JCA Team Submits Joint Cargo Aircraft Proposal
(WASHINGTON, June 7, 2006) -- Alenia North America announced today that the C-27J JCA Team of L-3 Communications Integrated Systems (L-3 IS), a subsidiary of L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL), Alenia North America, Inc. (a Finmeccanica company), Boeing Integrated Defense Systems (NYSE: BA), and Global Military Aircraft Systems (GMAS) personally delivered its proposal for the C-27J as the best value solution for the Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) program. L-3 IS is prime contractor for the JCA program. The JCA program was established to address operational shortfalls and is a key component in the U.S. Army's transformation of its fixed-wing fleet. The C-27J JCA Team offering is an effective, C-27J multi-mission cargo aircraft solution that will fill the current capability gap in joint aerial delivery based on its ability to transport critical cargo and personnel, self-deploy over strategic distances, land in austere locations, operate autonomously, and provide routine and combat aerial sustainment to the joint force.
"Built from the ground up to support combat operations, the C-27J is the most rugged, versatile, and survivable aircraft in its class. It was designed to operate in remote and austere environments and provide the tactical utility necessary to logistically support soldiers," said Giuseppe Giordo, president and CEO of Alenia North America. "Our C-27J Team offering represents the best value solution - on time and on target."
"The team we have assembled is the best in aerospace industry," said Alison Hartley, Vice President Business Development of L-3 Integrated Systems Group. "Together, L-3, Alenia, and Boeing have all of the highly qualified skills and resources required to deliver the best value C-27J JCA weapon system with superior quality to the joint warfighter."
"The C-27J is designed specifically to fill the gap that exists today in the 'last tactical mile' of the supply chain," said BGen (retired) Howard Yellen, general manager of GMAS. "With its excellent Short Take-off and Landing (STOL) performance from unprepared airstrips, the C-27J can satisfy the JCA mission better than any aircraft in its class."
"The C-27J is the perfect complement to the current airlift fleet as it provides enhanced tactical flexibility and an unmatched level of interoperability with both the existing Army and Air Force transport assets," said Ron Marcotte, vice president and general manager for Boeing Global Mobility Systems.
