COSYS hits the mark in Malaysia

(Bremen/Lumut, May 2006) -- ATLAS ELEKTRONIK has achieved the final milestone of the Acceptance Test Programme for the COSYS Command and Fire Control System of two Patrol Vessels of the Royal Malaysian Navy. The trials have demonstrated the excellent capabilities and performance of COSYS in a series of highly demanding tests and trials. The tests were performed by a team of supplier representatives, headed by the ATLAS ELEKTRONIK Combat Systems Integration Team. The results of the tests and trials were to the full satisfaction of the customer. Firing trials have concluded the trials programme after which the ships will be finally handed over to the Royal Malaysian Navy.

Sea trials for both vessels were completed in December 2005 where detection, accuracy and reaction time specifications of COSYS were successfully verified. In April and May 2006 the COSYS Command and Fire Control Systems were subject to a large series of firing trials. Firing runs were performed against air and surface targets. The passive defence capabilities were demonstrated by launching decoys on an ESM detected threat.

The remains of heavily damaged and destroyed trial targets as a result of a large number of direct hits are the evidence of the lethality of COSYS. One towed air target was downed and two towed air targets were severely damaged. More than 1000 rounds of 76 mm and 30 mm ammunition were fired from both vessels.

The firing trials were the ultimate test to demonstrate the capabilities of the COSYS under real operational conditions.

The COSYS Combat System configuration of ATLAS ELEKTRONIK consists of an: ARGOS Combat Management System (ARGOS is the brand name of Combat Management Systems of ATLAS ELEKTRONIK. ARGOS brand name was introduced after the contract was awarded to ATLAS ELEKTRONIK), the TRS-3D/16-ES surveillance radar of EADS, a TMX/EO fire control radar and TMEO EO Director of Oerlikon Contraves with associated fire control equipment for the OTO Melara 76/62 Super Rapid and 30 mm guns. The ESM Sceptre-X of Thales and the ALEX/SRBOC decoy launching system of Sippican provide for passive self defence.
