Sentient's Kestrel Surpasses One Thousand Deployments
Sentient announced today that its Kestrel Land MTI and Kestrel Maritime software has now been deployed on over 1,000 systems worldwide.
Developed by Sentient initially through the Australian Governments Capability Technology Demonstrator (CTD) program and enhanced in close collaboration with the Australian Department of Defence, most of these systems are deployed in support of the Australian Defence Force and its allies in locations of interest all over the world.
Global Military UAV Market Forecast to 2022
Since its first introduction into service in 2010, Kestrel has been, and continues to be, used to support the missions of customers that include Australian Defence Force, US Navy, US Army, US Marine Corps, US Department of Homeland Security and the Canadian National Defence, In addition it has been used in support of allied mission combat environments that include Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, and in support of military and civil applications in Australia, Africa, Middle East, Europe, UK, North and South America.
“Being able to achieve one thousand deployed systems is a testament to the durability and flexibility of the Kestrel autonomous detection software.” said Simon Olsen, Director of Business Development, Strategy and Partnerships at Sentient. “Kestrel’s ability to work in real environments, on real missions and with all types of imagery sets it apart from any of its competitors”.
From its origins as a software system in support of unmanned system operations, Kestrel is now being used on over 20 types of manned aircraft, on ground control systems, remote terminals and even on a small form factor chip processor board. “Our progression on-board – in particular with small form factor processing boards – marks the next big step in the evolution of Kestrel. Processing boards remove the laptop from the equation which transforms the ease in which customers can access data from Kestrel” said Olsen.
Kestrel is a software solution that automatically detects small moving objects on land or small objects on the surface of the ocean, in real-time within EO/IR sensor feeds. Kestrel specializes in detecting objects that are difficult for the operator to see, such as vehicles and people moving in challenging land environments or small boats and people in the water. With Kestrel, operators are able to use wide field of view settings to cover larger search areas with a higher probability of detection.
Sentient Vision Systems develops and deploys computer vision solutions for defense and civil applications. Since 1999 Sentient has specialized in video analytics with a primary focus on the development of automated detection software for full motion video. With over 1,000 systems deployed, Sentient’s solutions enhance the performance of EO/IR operations for many agencies and forces worldwide.
