EVA Air selects GE engines for its Boeing 787s and 777s aircraft
- Engines and OnPointSM solution service agreements valued at more than $2 billion (USD)
EVA Air selected the GEnx-1B engine to power its 24 Boeing 787-9/-10 aircraft and ordered two additional GE90-115B-powered Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The GE90-powered Boeing 777-300ERs will be delivered in 2017 and the GEnx-powered Boeing 787 aircraft will begin delivery in 2018.
Along with the new engines, EVA Air signed 12-year OnPointSM solution agreements for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of its GEnx-1B and GE90-115B engine fleet. The new engines and OnPoint solution agreements are valued at more than $2 billion (USD) list price for the engine and over the life of the service agreements.

The GEnx-1B engine is the best-selling engine on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The engine has accumulated more than two million flight hours and close to 400,000 cycles since entering service.
Compared to GE's CF6 engine, the GEnx engine offers up to 15 percent better fuel efficiency, which translates to 15 percent less CO2. The GEnx's innovative twin-annular pre-swirl (TAPS) combustor dramatically reduces NOx gases as much as 55 percent below today's regulatory limits and other regulated gases as much as 90 percent. Based on the ratio of decibels to pounds of thrust, the GEnx is the quietest engine GE produces due to the large, more efficient fan blades that operate at slower tip speed, resulting in about 40 percent lower noise levels.
GEnx revenue-sharing participants are IHI Corporation of Japan, GKN Aerospace Engine Systems of UK, MTU of Germany, TechSpace Aero of Belgium, Snecma (SAFRAN Group) of France and Hanwha Techwin Inc. of Korea.
The GE90 engine family powers all Boeing 777 models and is the exclusive powerplant on the 777-300ER, -200LR, and Freighter. The family has accumulated more than 50 million flight hours and 8 million cycles since entering service in 1995.
The GE90 engine features several technology firsts, including carbon fiber composite front fan blades, the world's largest front fan at 128 inches in diameter and the world-record setting thrust of 127,900 pounds during certification testing. The popular GE90-115B engine includes such performance-enhancing features as three-dimensional aerodynamic (3-D aero) compressor and wide-chord, swept composite fan blades for greater efficiency. The dual annular combustor emits no more than 40 percent of the hydrocarbons allowed by today's international standards. In addition, today's GE90-115B engines have been enhanced to reduce fuel burn by 3.6 percent from the 2000 launch specifications.
