Terma and Lockheed Martin representatives recently signed a contract for the integration of the Elettronica ELT/572 Directional Infrared Counter Measures (DIRCM) on C-130J Super Hercules aircraft that are operated by the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare).
This contract includes DIRCM installation on some aircraft of the Italian Air Force’ fleet of C-130J/KC-130Js.

This will be the first fully integrated DIRCM solution installed on a C-130J. This system has the potential to be integrated into other C-130J and legacy C-130 platforms in select markets.
“This integrated DIRCM system provides the Italian Air Force’ C-130Js with an essential self-defense capability that protects aircrews as they support a number of vital missions around the world,” said George Shultz, Vice President and General Manager, C-130 Programs at Lockheed Martin.
“We welcome the opportunity to partner with Lockheed Martin in providing this important enhancement for Italy’s C-130J fleet,” said Lars Tolstrup, director, Terma Airborne Systems.
Terma and Lockheed Martin signed a contract in 2014 for Terma to supply Programmable Interface Blanking Units (PIBUs). The PIBU tracks active aircraft transmitters and receivers, in turn eliminating radio frequency interference from other aircraft. These PIBUs have been installed on a number of C-130Js, including existing airframes and new production aircraft.
