Indra to Implement its Instrument Landing Systems in Argentinean Airports
- With this solution, the airports will be able to work in conditions of low visibility and, as such, increase their availability

Indra will implement its Normac instrument landing systems (ILS) in four airports in Argentina. With these systems, aircrafts will be able to land in conditions of almost no visibility without jeopardizing security levels.
These systems will be deployed in the airports of San Salvador de Jujuy (Jujuy province), San Juan (San Juan province), Trelew (Chubut province) and Bahía Blanca (Buenos Aires province).

Indra was awarded this contract through a process managed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a body subordinate to the UN. This is a very demanding project both due to its technological difficulties and requirements and its execution timeframes.
ILS are instrument landing systems consisting of a locator (marks the center of the runway), a glide path for the approach angle, and on-board aircraft equipment that receives both signals, displays them on a screen and shows any adjustments required to land safely. Indra's Normac DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) systems will also be installed in all four sites.
This contract reinforces Indra's position as a strategic supplier of the General Directorate of Air Traffic Control (DGCTA), a body governed by the Argentinean Air Force (FAA). In 2008 the company implemented civil air traffic management systems and a secondary radar system (MSSR) in Ezeiza and Cordoba airports. Indra also launched the center for training, improvement and experimentation (CIPE) at Ezeiza airport, and equipped the control center at Cordoba airport with its digital voice communication systems.
Projects for the Central American Corporation for Air Navigation Services (COCESNA), which uses Indra's technology to manage the entire upper airspace of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Belize, are some of the most important in Latin America. These countries have also implemented Indra's systems in their own control centers. The company has also carried out air traffic projects in Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil, among other countries.
