Rockwell Collins unveils ProSim projector
- Industry-leading contrast and deep blacks bring a new level of realism to simulation and training
Rockwell Collins today unveiled its ProSim™ ultra contrast projector, providing the visual refinement and reliability to take simulation and training to the next level of realism.
The new projector enhances simulation through an industry-leading native contrast ratio, using patented technology to simultaneously display darker blacks and lighter whites than any other projector on the market.

ProSim’s new Intensity Management System maintains constant brightness over the lifetime of the projector by adjusting the lamp’s power supply to the lamp to compensate for bulb degradation, and keeping maintenance requirements to a minimum.
“Projections delivered with ProSim bring a higher level of visual realism, reliability and consistent performance our customers have been seeking,” said LeAnn Ridgeway, vice president and general manager of Rockwell Collins Simulation and Training Solutions.
ProSim’s industry-leading black levels provide improved realism to night vision goggle training and other night scenes without the need for iris or aperture changes. Its sequential contrast of greater than 500,000 to 1 is achieved along with a night vision contrast greater than 50,000 to 1.
A benefit of the deep black state is that multiple projectors can be blended electronically rather than with the use of expensive and cumbersome optical blend filters required with other projection devices. By enabling true black and peak white simultaneously, the ProSim projector allows for the most realistic training content at any time of day or night.
“Deeper blacks, truer whites and consistent brightness are at the heart of the visual experience in simulation,” explained Ridgeway. “By bringing these basic qualities to a higher level, ProSim raises the standard in the simulation market.”
Demand for the ProSim projector has been driven by needs in the fast jet and helicopter simulation and training markets.
The Griffin™ real image display system, a high resolution, rear-projected dome from Rockwell Collins, relies on the ProSim Ultra Contrast Projector to achieve its remarkable visual realism. ProSim is also available on both the SpectraView™ front projection display system and Panorama™ collimated display system from Rockwell Collins as well as a stand-alone projection device.
