"There were a series of explosions that occurred in the vicinity of a forward operating base in Nangarhar province," an ISAF spokesman told AFP.
"We are currently assessing the situation," he added.
Afghan officials said the attack took place in Torkham in the eastern province which neighbours Pakistan.
"A group of suicide bombers have attacked a US base in Torkham near the border with Pakistan," Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for the provincial governor, told AFP.
Abdulzai said fighting was ongoing between US and Afghan forces against the militants.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, in a statement sent to the media, claimed responsibility for the attack.
