Aptima, Inc., the leading human-centered R&D company that applies expertise in the disciplines of how humans think, learn, and behave to solve challenges faced by the U.S. Department of Defense, announced today that Michael J. Paley has been named President effective January 1.
Dr. Paley joined Aptima in 1998 and most recently served as Executive Vice President. In this role he was instrumental in the company’s continued growth and led the efforts to open regional offices in Fairborn, OH, and Orlando, FL. As President, Dr. Paley is responsible for effectively aligning Aptima’s internal business development functions, operations and technology generation processes to meet strategic and operational objectives. He is also responsible for establishing overall strategy in penetrating new markets and forging new business relationships.

In addition to his contributions in managing the company, Dr. Paley has maintained active involvement in Aptima’s scientific work serving as a Senior Scientist and Principle Investigator across a range of technical domains and complex environments ranging from Air Force Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) Command and Control Aircraft and Navy Aegis Cruisers, to overseas Army Stability and Support Operations. In particular, he has extensive experience leading research and development efforts focused on operational tools, training systems, and decision aids for use in Human Social Culture Behavior (HSCB) domains and developing innovative approaches to apply human performance modeling for operational augmentation and optimal redesign of teams and organizations.
Prior to joining Aptima, Dr. Paley was a Staff Member at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where he was responsible for human factors assessment of the AWACS operator workstations. He received a Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from the University of Connecticut, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Rochester.
