Two killed in Ireland plane crash

Two people have died after a small aircraft crashed in the Irish midlands on Sunday.

The Cessna Light Training Aircraft with two people on board lost all contact with air traffic control just before 5:00 pm (1700GMT).

A search involving the Irish police helicopter discovered the wreckage in a field two miles (3.21 kilometres) outside the town of Birr in Co Offaly.

It is understood the occupants of the aircraft were an instructor and a trainee pilot.

The aircraft crashed two miles from a small airfield in Birr, where the two men had taken off from.
