MDA to provide further upgrades to Royal Canadian Navy ships

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has signed a contract worth CA$13.4 million with Canada's Department of National Defence. MDA will upgrade mission critical systems to support mine detection missions and route survey operations for the Royal Canadian Navy's (RCN) Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels.

The vessels assist the RCN in meeting coastal defence mandates in the area of national sovereignty, and provide the RCN with a dedicated coastal defence capability. Although their primary mission is coastal surveillance, the vessels perform a wide variety of operational tasks including search and rescue, fisheries and environmental monitoring, disaster relief, mine countermeasures and scientific research.
