September 26, 2012 – Thales Canada extended its congratulations to Gulfstream for receiving flight worthiness certification for the ultra-long range G650 business jet from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) earlier this month.
Integral to the aircraft’s technologically advanceddesign is Thales’ full three-axisFly-By-Wire (FBW) Flight Control Electronics (FCE) solution.
“We are delighted to be part of the G650 and Gulfstream’s achievement of this significant milestone with the FAA,” said Paul Kahn, President and CEO, Thales Canada. “We arecommitted to developing technologies and skills of the highest quality and offering them to the world. Our success providing an FCE solution that best meets the needs of the G650 further positions us as a world-leading supplier and preferred system integrator of FBW technology.”
The FCE consists of two digital flight control computers and one back-up flight control unit. Thales applied its latest design evolution of quad-dual flight control computer architecture, along with modular packaging design, to ensure that all stringent safety, certification and operational dispatch requirements were met.

“Working closely with our customer, Thales has developed state-of-the-art built-in redundant technology that exceeds certification requirements,” said Michel Grenier, Vice President, Thales Canada Aerospace. “Applying the highest of industry standards, we developed an FCE solution that provides an additional level of safety, over and above certification requirements, through the use of aseparate, completely dissimilar and dedicated back-up flight-control computer.”
The system level engineering and software development for FBW FCE is designed by Thales Canada Aerospace located in Montreal, and the hardware is designed and produced by Thales Avionics in France.
