The contract covers disassembly, inspection, repairs, parts replacement, assembly, testing, and certification of replaced components. The contract gives Orbest access to Iberia’s pool of spare parts.
Iberia already conducts line maintenance and major overhauls of Orbest’s aircraft, as well as inspections and repair of CFM56-5B engines.
Orbest was founded in 1998 as Iberworld Airlines and now serves 120 destinations. It flies three Airbus A330/300s and 6 Airbus A320s, with an average age of four years.
Iberia Maintenance handles inspections and repairs of airframes, engines, and components of Iberia’s own fleet and those of about a hundred outside customers around the world. It is the world's ninth-largest aircraft maintenance company and the leading one is Spain by revenues and staff size, as well as in terms of repair, high technology, and aircraft modification capacity. In 2011 it inspected some 200 engines and more than 66,000 components, whilst carrying out 1,161 “A” checks on airframes.
