New collaboration in UK aerospace industry announced

An exciting new collaboration in the UK aerospace industry was announced today (20/07/05) to Members of Parliament at a reception in the House of Commons. The Northwest Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) and the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) have agreed on a new regional partnership to strengthen support for UK aerospace companies.

The new partnership will place special emphasis on promoting productivity improvement, raising skill levels and encouraging innovation. These are essential to secure long term competitive advantage in an increasingly globak market place.


Commenting on the new collaboration Chairman of NWAA, Dennis Mendoros OBE DL, said, ‘‘The North West of England is a major force in aerospace markets worldwide, generating a massive £7 billion annually and supporting a direct workforce of some 60,000 employees. The new partnership agreement with SBAC will ensure that aerospace industry initiatives are better co-ordinated and that best practice processes are shared effectively.’’

SBAC President, Kevin Smith CBE said, ‘‘I am delighted that the NorthWest Aerospace Alliance has become SBAC’s regional partner. This collaboration will give the North West a stronger voice in developing national strategies and opens up access to the full range of SBAC services. The focus on skills and productivity are essential to meet the long term vision set out by the AeIGT.’’

SBAC is committed to working closely with regional trade bodies to maximise the opportunities for companies at all levels of the supply chain. In March 2005 both Farnborough Aerospace Consortium and Northern Defence Industries became regional members of SBAC.
