Wind farm compliant approach radar in Copenhagen International Airport

Wind turbines and air surveillance radars usually do not mix very well. Several wind farm projects worldwide are affected by delays or cancellation due to radar interference caused by wind turbines.

As a response to this issue, Terma has installed a SCANTER 4002 air surveillance radar in Copenhagen International Airport (CPH) with the purpose of demonstrating the SCANTER 4002’s capability as “wind farm compliant” approach radar and evaluate mitigation of the numerous wind turbines in the area around CPH. The unique capability of small target detection around wind farms and interturbine visibility makes the SCANTER 4002 the obvious mitigating choice as gap filling radar to existing radar systems.

The project is carried out in cooperation with NAVIAIR, the Danish Air Navigation Service Provider.
