COPA Airlines selects Rockwell Collins' avionics for 37 new 737 aircraft
Panama-based COPA Airlines has selected a number of Rockwell Collins’ communication, navigation and surveillance systems, including the latest version of its MultiScan™ Threat Detection System and GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), for 37 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
“To stay competitive in the growing Latin American aviation industry, airlines must select avionics that keep passengers satisfied and comfortable during flight and on time to their destinations,” said Thierry Tosi, vice president and managing director of Americas for Rockwell Collins. “COPA’s selection demonstrates the trust they have in us to deliver advanced avionics solutions like MultiScan and MMR to optimize performance.”
Global Military Aircraft Avionics Market 2015-2019
Rockwell Collins’ industry-leading MultiScan Threat Detection System – with more than 4,100 systems flying on over 145 airlines today − is a fully automatic airborne weather radar system. MultiScan combines the latest weather science with advanced engineering concepts to identify and analyze thunderstorm cells, and display the actual weather threat. The end result is reduced pilot workload, enhanced safety.
“These new advanced avionics we’ve selected will enable us to fly more precise routes while avoiding inclement weather, which increases the safety and efficiency of the air traffic operations in our regions, and enhances passenger comfort by minimizing unexpected turbulence encounters,” said Rafael Samudio, Technical Purchasing Director, COPA Airlines.
The latest version of MultiScan features many new market-first capabilities that enable the prediction and display of hail and lightning potential, thunderstorm-related clear-air turbulence potential, and different levels of turbulence.
The advanced GLU-925 is the first MMR certified for precision landing using either Global Navigation Satellite Systems or Instrument Landing Systems. The GLU-925 is the primary navigation sensor for all phases of flight, and meets the stringent Required Navigation Performance (RNP) requirement of RNP 0.1.
