Firefighting C-130 plane crashes in US

A C-130 plane equipped for supporting firefighting missions has crashed in the southwest corner of South Dakota, the US military's Northern Command announced.

The plane went down at about 6:00 pm local time (0000 GMT) Sunday, and no details on the status of the aircrew are available at this time, the statement said.

The aircraft was supporting efforts against a forest fire raging in the area.

The cause of the crash is unknown and the incident is under investigation, the statement added.
