AN/ARC-210 Gen5 RT-1939 Becomes 1st Certified Airborne SDR to Incorporate Soldier Radio Waveform
U.S. warfighters can now fully network ground troops with aircraft after Rockwell Collins AN/ARC-210 Gen5 RT-1939 (C) radio recently incorporated the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW).
The networked airborne V/UHF, software-defined, tactical radio is the first to be able to run SRW in both Electronic Warfare (EW) and Combat Communications (CC) modes at all four established data rates required by the Joint Tactical Radio System Joint Program Executive Office.

“This turnkey capability eliminates the need for military aviation operators to strap ground radios into their aircraft in order to have connectivity with SRW,” said Bob Haag, vice president and general manager of Communication and Navigation Products for Rockwell Collins. “We have incorporated SRW into the ARC-210 so that tactical aircraft and helicopters supporting ground troops can exchange information and improve their mission effectiveness."
A form and fit replacement for existing ARC-210 radios, currently installed on more than 180 different platform types worldwide, the ARC-210 Gen5 radio previously received National Security Agency (NSA) certification, providing compliance with the NSA’s cryptographic modernization initiative. It is the first military airborne transceiver to provide a modern, embedded, fully programmable information security capability.
The ARC-210 Gen5 radio features an optimized Software Communications Architecture, embedded programmable next generation information security and extended frequencies to 941 MHz. In addition, the Gen5 radio will provide the next generation Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) UHF data link capability and will support insertion of Tactical Secure Voice (TSV), Integrated Waveform (IW), Combat Net Radio (CNR) and Single Radio Relay (SRR) capabilities.
