Barco launches compact and rugged smart displays for vehicle command and control applications

Visualization pioneer Barco is pleased to announce the launch of two new smart displays – the SV-126 and the SV-231 – that combine a low-reflection, rugged touch screen with the graphics and computing power of Barco’s DPM computer. Thanks to the compact footprint, the smart displays can be easily integrated into the confined spaces of wheeled and tracked military vehicles.

Compact footprint
The two new displays come with a 10-inch screen and XGA resolution (SV-126) or a 12-inch panel with WXGA resolution (SV-231). Integrating Barco’s DPM computing power, both smart displays feature a highly compact footprint. With a depth of merely 84 mm (3.3”), the SV displays are ideal for on-the-move operations in space-constrained areas of the utility vehicle or ground army vehicle.

Configurable and customizable
“The new SV range can be easily connected with state-of-the-art vehicle architectures such as VICTORY and GVA (Defense Standard 23-09). It combines the latest proven optical technologies – such as a rugged, low-reflection touch screen – with the latest generation of processors and vehicle interfaces, assuring full reliability and compatibility,” says Peter Pauwels, Barco’s Director Strategic Marketing for Defense. “The 12-inch model offers additional high-end features such as widescreen technology and full sunlight readability.”

Both panel sizes can be easily combined with the Intel® CoreTM i3 and Intel® CoreTM i7 processors, resulting in four configurations. This modular and open architecture increases flexibility in terms of processing power and graphics performance. Multiple option boards are available to add extra functionality. Additionally, both smart displays come with a field-removable solid state drive for secured data and fast replacement in the field.

Extreme ruggedization
The smart displays feature a unique thermal management system which makes them fit for use in the harshest temperature environments. Meeting SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power and Cost) requirements and MIL qualifications, the SV-126 and SV-231 are perfect for dashboard applications.

Advanced image processing
The smart displays support Barco’s CommonSense platform, featuring advanced video processing – including image fusion, image warping and motion detection – and high-resolution video streaming functionality for improved situational awareness.
